Have you thought how enjoyable it would be to become a Swaledale Festival Volunteer?
The Festival relies on a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time generously and with great enthusiasm. We are always looking to increase this invaluable volunteer force, and there are several ways in which you can become involved.
It all starts with our annual Volunteers' Social Evening in February usually held in Fremington Village Hall (formerly the Sunday School), near Reeth. Malcolm Creese, the Festival's Artistic Director, tries to be there to enlighten everyone on the upcoming Festival programme, artists and venues. There is an opportunity to sign up for stewarding at the events plus all the other tasks which the volunteers do each year.
Each event needs stewards to sell tickets, distribute programmes, help people to their seats, staff the exits for safety purposes, and be prepared for anything else which may occur in order to make sure that the event runs smoothly.
Our hosts offer accommodation (free of charge but with tickets to the artist's event) to the artists performing in the Festival. It is an interesting experience and you will meet some remarkable people.
We need drivers who can take artists to and from stations, venues and accommodation.
Village representatives keep brochure outlets topped up, put up posters and help in many other ways.
Do join us at our Volunteer’s Social Evening (see details above), for tea, coffee, light refreshments, and a great opportunity to sign up for event stewarding.
We look forward to seeing you then, and please remember to bring your diaries. If you feel that you can help the Festival in any of these ways or wish for any additional information, please contact us.
For those who have been Village Reps previously, please note that we have now decided to mail out all brochures rather than having Village Reps hand deliver them.
The Festival only has two paid staff - Malcolm Creese, the Artistic Director and Jill Armstrong, the Administrator. A substantial amount of work is carried out throughout the year by our volunteer board of directors and a few other specialist voluntary helpers. Areas where we may need specialist volunteers include IT, finance, publicity, sponsorship, recruitment and marketing. Our specialist volunteers work mainly outside the Festival ‘season’, carrying out tasks such as data entry, visiting businesses, delivering leaflets or writing copy for publicity material. We are also specifically keen to recruit a volunteer with retail experience to help set up a branded and promotional goods project. If you can help in any of these roles, please get in touch with our Volunteers Co-ordinator, Maria Laybourn, at: firstname.lastname@example.org
