An unconventional meeting of the old and the new, this extraordinary project bridges the gap between art song and pop song. John Paul Jones (of Led Zeppelin fame), Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks and Sting were commissioned to write new lute songs: Banks set 17th century poems by Thomas Campion (whose songs will also be heard here), Jones chose poems from Spanish literature, and Sting's Bury me deep in the Greenwood incorporates his own lyrics. The set is rounded off with delightful 20th century songs by E.J. Moeran and Peter Warlock and the only piece known from the Renaissance composer Picforth. Stunningly beautiful music in the perfect setting of Grinton Church.

John Potter will give a short introductory talk about this fascinating project at the beginning of the concert.
