Event No: 39

Monday 5 June, 19.30 - The country's finest young jazz musicians

Venue: Influence Church, Richmond

A night of thrilling music from twenty of the finest young jazz musicians in Britain, directed by trumpeter Mark Armstrong. Classics from the big band canon will be played alongside brand new commissions by this world-class band which has helped launch the careers of notable musicians such as Gwilym Simcock, Laura Jurd, Mark Nightingale, Guy Barker and Amy Winehouse.

As part of Swaledale Festival's Community and Education programme, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra will be performing a special concert for 500 school children in Catterick Garrison this week, and it will be broadcast to all North Yorkshire schools and to British army bases all over the world. There will also be a programme of follow-up workshops for students interested in playing and learning more jazz music. The Festival is grateful to the following people and organisations for helping us to realise this exciting project: Hilary and Dave Disney, Risedale Sports & Community College, the North Yorkshire Youth Music Action Zone, the British Forces Broadcasting Service and Arts Council England.

Adult £18, under 25 £3.

Generously supported by Judy Yielder and Hilary & Dave Disney.
